Annette’s Oh-So-Stunning Nuage Beret

As an incredibly experienced knitter, our coworker Annette can design a ravishing pattern at the drop of a hat–and this time she designed the hat before we had a chance to drop it.  Her latest creation is a classic beret with a striking rolled brim and heavenly fit.  Inspired by Madelinetosh’s Colorblock collection we recently got in at the shop, Annette wanted to design a pattern that would showcase the color distribution of these unique two-tone skeins.  She used the colorway Cloud/Surf, which led us to name the design “nuage“, or “cloud” in French.

Knit one up this month and come show it off in the shop or post a photo on RavelryCloud/Surf, Ash/Steel, Dove/Subtle– which two-tone colorway do you want to try?

Triad Shawl in Mohonk

As soon as we received that shipment of Mohonk, we started dreaming up projects to show it off! Annette decided to knit Jill Draper’s Triad shawl, a simple knit with a striking three point shape.

You use almost the entirety of three skeins of Mohonk, and this pattern incorporates garter, stockinette stitch, and stripes for a bold style.

This version was knit out of Mourning Dove, Second Cutting, and Black Pine, but Jill has dyed up a rainbow of shades to chose from! Annette isn’t done knitting with Mohonk, next she’s going to make Carol Sunday’s Tapestry sweater. This versatile yarn looks great in a variety of designs!

Year-End Projects

Posted by on November 16, 2012 / 1 Comment

As we begin working feverishly to knit up those numerous Christmas presents we promised ourselves we’d make this year, it’s good to know some of us still had time to finish up a few personal projects!

Using Madelinetosh Tosh Chunky, in Steamer Trunk, Beth just completed Jane Richmond’s Begbie Cowl. She said she used almost all of one skein, and now has plans to make an Owl Puff cat toy with the rest. It’s sure to make Monkey one content kitty cat. :)

Annette also put together a pretty cowl by casting on 100 stitches of Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Worsted, in Curiosity, and using a 5×5 basketweave stitch.

Tai knitted up something a bit more durable, with the Twiggy, another of Richmond’s great designs. It looks and feels like the Erika Knight Maxi Wool she used, in Gunk, was the perfect choice.

As for the rest of us at the shop, we’ve been super busy working on class samples, and an impressive amount of unfinished projects. But the last of those will have to wait, now that gift giving season is in full motion!

In fact, stay tuned to the blog this coming Monday, as we start our series of holiday gift ideas. Each article is guaranteed to give you some fun and unique ways to tackle your holiday offerings this year!
